Dear Colleague,
we hereby would like to draw your attention to a unique event in 2003
jointly organized by the European Geophysical Society (EGS),
the American Geophysical Union (AGU),
and the European Union of Geosciences (EUG),
the:
EGS-AGU-EUG Joint Assembly
Nice, France, 06 - 11 April 2003
Deadline for receipt of abstracts : 15 January 2003
Deadline for pre-registration : 07 March 2003
Dear colleagues,
The EGS-AGU-EUG Joint Assembly (see http://www.copernicus.org/egsagueug/) is taking place in Nice, France, 06- 11 April 2003. In the Section Nonlinear Processes in Geophysics (NP) the NP7 session will be on
Dynamical System approaches to fundamental problems in Geophysics
In recent years, the systematic methodology of dynamical systems theory has found widespread application in meteorology, physical oceanography, climate dynamics and other areas of geophysics. Its main strength is that fundamental questions on complex nonlinear temporal/spatial behavior of particular systems can be tackled. In this session, we aim to (i) assess the status of the specific tools, (ii) review the results which have been obtained in specific areas and (iii) identify potential new areas of application.
We are planning to organize two mini-workshops on the stability and low-frequency variability of (i) the wind-driven ocean circulation and (ii) the thermohaline ocean circulation. Aim of these mini-workshops is to evaluate current views of the physics of this variability.
We would appreciate it if you could post this message in your Department in order to encourage scientists to participate in this session and contribute a talk or a poster. Note that the deadline for submitting abstracts is rather soon: January 15, 2003.
Thank you very much and we wish you nice holidays and good start in 2003.
Henk Dijkstra, Utrecht
Gerrit Lohmann, Bremen
